In recognition of National Preparedness Month (September), Chief of Police Penny Dunn offers these helpful tips for being prepared while on the road:
Be sure to have the appropriate tools and materials for a roadside emergency or breakdown:
- Flashlight
- Flares or emergency cones/triangles
- Spare tire (check the air pressure)
- Jack and tools for changing a flat tire
- Phone numbers for towing or emergency roadside assistance stored in your cell phone
- Jumper cables and/or portable battery jump box
- Basic tool set – screwdrivers (Phillips and Flathead), pliers, etc.
- Basic first-aid kit
It's always a good idea to stay in touch with family members and/or friends during weather events, travel, etc... Keeping in touch prevents miscommunication and allows first responders to be available for emergencies.
