Why is the town considering the Downtown Catalyst Feasibility Study?
The Town of Davidson is trying to satisfy a number of citizen needs (based on responses from stakeholders meetings and public input sessions over the past 22 months) by studying the catalyst site. Some of the needs that could be satisfied by developing this site are:
• more parking in the downtown area,
• more retail and office space downtown,
• improved downtown public space, including an improved site for the Davidson Farmer’s Market
• downtown housing, and
• increased space for public services.
Consultants with the Development Finance Initiative (DFI), a program of the UNC School of Government, are providing specialized finance and development expertise to the Town of Davidson to determine the potential for a partnership to develop the area. Financial feasibility details for the most recent options under consideration by the Davidson Board of Commissioners are available on our website at www.townofdavidson.org/catalyst.
“We received very important feedback at the roundtable discussions we held in February, and this will be a chance for citizens to review the financial impact of potential development options under consideration,” said Economic Development Manager Kim Fleming. “As our population grows, we need to make sure we are prepared to meet the needs of our citizens and town government.”
