Plan

On September 13, 2016, the Board of Commissioners approved the Rural Area Plan. To view the plan, please click here. Notably, since its adoption its achievements have been acknowledged with three awards: Sustain Charlotte (2017 Land Use award winner); the NC Chapter of the American Planning Association (2017 Marvin Collins Planning Award, Implementation/Small Community category); and, the Congress for the New Urbanism (2018 Charter Award). For more information on the plan's achievements, please see the Timeline tab.

Thank you to all landowners, citizens, and organizations that participated! This planning process and document build on the legacy of dialogue dating back (and perhaps beyond!) the 1993 General Plan. The Timeline tab outlines the next steps in the process to incorporate the approved plan's recommendations into the Davidson Planning Ordinance. Currently, staff and elected officials are working to implement the plan's recommendations by incorporating the proposed changes into the Davidson Plan Ordinance.

For more information please explore the other tabs (Background, Timeline, etc.) For a detailed set of responses to frequently asked questions, please see the FAQ Summary on the FAQs tab.
