What is DTAP?
The Davidson Tax Assistance Program (DTAP) has been developed to provide grant funding on behalf of qualifying residential homeowners. The intent of this program is to support the town’s anti-displacement goal.
Grant funds will be paid directly to the Mecklenburg or Iredell Tax Collector in an amount up to 25% of the Town of Davidson’s portion of ad valorem taxes on the current year’s tax bill, not to exceed $335 per year.
The FY2024 DTAP will be funded from a $22,000 donation from the Davidson Community Foundation.
What is the purpose of the program?
The Davidson Tax Assistance Program is designed to assist qualified residential homeowners with low income within the Town of Davidson to retain their homes by reducing the financial burden through grant funding.
Applications will be processed on a first come first serve basis until funds are exhausted.
Who can qualify?
Ownership & Occupancy Requirements
- Assistance applies only to single-family residential properties, including townhouses and condominiums.
- Assistance excludes property tax on vehicles.
- The property must be located within the Town of Davidson city limits.
- The property must be the owner's legal primary residence at the time of application and consistently for the past three consecutive years as verified by recorded legal documents.
Tax Status
Ad valorem real estate taxes within the most recent consecutive three bills must be paid in full in order for a resident to be eligible for assistance from the proposed program.
Is there an income limit?
Household income may not exceed 80% of the area's median income (AMI) based on the number of people in the household. These figures are set annually by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Applicants will be required to provide the number of people who live in the household and provide proof of income.
Is there an age limit?
No, there is no age limit for this program.
What is the deadline for 2023?
- Applications will be accepted from September 1 – December 1, 2023.
- Applications and verifications MUST be submitted by December 1, 2023, to be considered. Applications and verifications must have a postmarked date by December 1, 2023.
Incomplete applications will not be approved; completed applications may be resubmitted before the application deadline.
- Applications must be emailed by midnight on December 1, 2023.
- Applications must be submitted online by midnight on December 1, 2023.
- Applications must be received in person by Town of Davidson staff by 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2023.

Will my income for 2023 be counted?
No, eligibility for 2023 DTAP is based on your 2022 IRS documentation.
What if I have already paid my bill?
The Tax Collector will create a Pre-Pay bill for 2024 taxes.
Can I participate in DTAP if I have applied and/or approved for the Mecklenburg County HOMES program?
Yes! Residents are encouraged to also apply for the Mecklenburg County HOMES program. The HOMES Program application period is July 1, 2023, through November 17, 2023. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted.
What if I am in another program for tax relief?
DTAP Applicants must not already be participants in any of the following programs:
- North Carolina Homestead Exclusion
- North Carolina Property Tax Homestead Circuit Breaker
- North Carolina Disabled Veterans Exclusion
- North Carolina Present Use Value (PUV) Program
How will I be notified that my application has been approved?
All applicants will receive an official notification letter mailed to their home address upon approval.
